The Beta Marine 37.5 HP Diesel Engine

This is the Beta 38 diesel engine, with 4 cylinders, developing 37.5 horsepower at 3600 rpm. The warranty is 3 years or 2000 hours. The pictures show the optional 100 amp, dual output alternator. It charges 2 battery banks at the same time. Note it's driven by a flat belt, available at any automotive parts store. It's very slip resistant, and is far superior to the usual "V belt" type drive. For maximum efficiency and abundant electrical power afloat, the "Beta Controller" is available. This is a solid state "smart controller" that automatically charges the batteries in 3 different modes, according to their specific needs.

All Beta Marine engines are fresh water cooled for longevity, and are non-turbocharged. Their horsepower is derived from large cylinder displacement and medium engine speed, in contrast to many of our competitor's turbocharged, high speed engines.

This engine is supplied with transmission, control panel, flexible mounts, solid prop shaft coupler and is complete, ready to install and run.

Beta Marine has designed their engines for easy owner maintenance. The dipstick, raw water pump, oil and fuel filters, optional oil change pump, fuel bleed screw, fuel lift pump, heat exchanger and zinc, are all located for convenient access. We also supply part numbers, so you may shop locally for your best price on these maintenance parts. Of course, we also carry these parts, and many more, in stock.

A very wide range of options are available, so you may specify the exact engine for your particular application. Some popular options include:
  • White Awl Grip paint
  • Dual control panels (for boats with 2 helm stations, such as the Gulf Pilothouse 32)
  • Power take offs (to drive a refrigeration compressor, watermaker, etc.)
  • Remote oil filter mount
  • "Sea Frost" compressor bracket (for refrigeration)
  • Water heater fittings (allows the engine to heat water for showers, automatically)
  • Choice of transmission brands, reduction ratios, and types
